Opposition parties reached agreement this evening on their strategy to remove Boris Johnson from Downing Street and prevent a no deal Brexit. After hours of negotiations the leaders of the Lib Dem’s and the SNP have persuaded Jeremy Corbyn to ‘put it to the people’ on a live TV show next Saturday evening (8pm, ITV1), with the public being asked to vote for either Ant or Dec to head up the interim government in advance of a general election.
Lib Dem leader Jo Swinson confirmed earlier, ‘The country is divided. People don’t know who to believe any longer. The only commonly held opinion, proven again and again on endless award shows, is the universal popularity of Ant and Dec. The people will accept one of them to lead us through this chaotic period. Our party will be campaigning for Dec, who we think is best placed to unite the country.’
Ian Blackford of the SNP said he was happy to support this plan. ‘We politicians have failed to bring the country together. It is our view that Dec could well be the answer we have been looking for.’
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn could only confirm that he was in support if the strategy, but would not be supporting either candidate publicly. He remains keen to see a third candidate on the ballot, a Holly Willoughby or a Billy Bragg, but is content to leave the final decision to the people.
Ant and Dec, busy filming ‘I’m a Celebrity’, were unavailable for comment. However their agent was happy to give consideration to any work opportunities, including pantomime.
