Preparations are well under way in Sunderland for what promises to be the biggest street party since Irma Wicleshaw’s 80th birthday in 2009.
With tens of people expected, the organisers are pulling out all the stops with a bumper day attended by star guests from across the Atlantic as the Alabama Ku Klux Klan are flying in to join in the celebrations.
The organising Committee of Bob and Ethel Grimshaw, Billy Bickleswade and his Pit Bull Enoch are promising an extravaganza of fun and frolics with music, food and drink.
Admission is free and the organisers say ‘be prepared to be whisked back in time’ with recordings of the great Vera Lynn, George Formby and that cheeky chappie Charlie Chester, from a time when Britain was great.
Chuck Stake, the Imperial Wizard of the Klan will be bringing over a special recording of the hit TV series Roots, which plays backwards so that it has a happy ending.
We are going to make Britain great again said Bob. Ethel is expecting to be up half the night making sardine and bloater paste sandwiches and we want everyone to get those padded anoraks off and really party like its 1939.
