In the eighty-fourth edition of the Russian Newspapers Monitor, Professor Filip Kovacevic discusses the frontpage articles from four Russian newspapers: Komsomolskaya Pravda, Nezavisimaya Gazeta, Izvestia, and Moskovsky Komsomolets. He examines the chances of an invasion of the Donbas region by the Ukrainian military during the Soccer World Cup which starts in Russia on June 14. In addition, Professor Kovacevic talks about NATO’s recent revitalizing of the anti-Russian regional organization called the Organization for Democracy and Economic Development which consists of Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, and Moldova – the so-called GUAM countries. He also chronicles the efforts of the Russian president Vladimir Putin to make a common anti-sanctions platform with the French president Emmanuel Macron and the Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe during the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. Lastly, Professor Kovacevic looks at how ordinary Russians plan to spend their vacation this summer. Do not miss this exclusive edition of the Russian Newspaper Monitor!
